    If you have to ask that… you’re not going to the right birthday parties…

    … and just for everyone’s info… not that anyone probably cares… but the song is protected by copyright but is available for fair use… so singing it at a family party doesn’t actually violate copyright law nor require royalties be paid. If you sing it for profit ( lol? ) or it’s in say… a movie… then royalties would be required to be paid to the copyright holder.

    Now I might be wrong but I think the copyright for Happy Birthday has long run out. Unless it was renewed the song is public domain.
